Mobile learning is learning that occurs through the use of personal, portable computing devices such as smart phones and tablets. Mobile learning allows studying to continue outside of the traditional classroom environment and can be used to engage students and allow for further understanding and investigation of content. This trend is currently already impacting education in a huge way and will continue to as mobile technology becomes more and more engrained in our everyday lives. Mobile technology allows learning to be more accessible, authentic, and informal, which seems to be the way most 21st century learner prefer. It is important for instructional technologist to keep up with the newest trends in mobile technology because properly using mobile technology requires much research and support. Also, It is the job of Instructional Technologists to prepare for the use of mobile technologies in the classroom by training colleagues to use and incorporate mobile devices into learning.

2. Mobile Learning Technologies for 21st Century Classrooms: An article written by Jonathan Wylie, Author of "The Education Technology Blog."
3. Do Mobile Devices in the Classroom Really Improve Learning Outcomes? Article that discusses the benefits and complications that come along with Mobile Technology in the classroom.
Activity for Application:
To apply mobile technology to the classroom, I will introduce teachers to a website called polleverywhere.com. After reviewing a premade video presentation, CCHS teachers will create a poll for classroom use. To illustrate practical application, students in ninth grade health courses will use Poll Everywhere to help engage in a conversation about healthy relationships. Poll Everywhere is an online polling device that allows individuals to respond to questions via text message, website, and a variety of other options. SMS (short message service) polling such as polleverywhere.com allows for quick, accurate, real time responses from students or any individual in a presentation setting. Poll Everywhere provides everything you need to host your own SMS poll. Participants’ responses can be displayed live on an instructors website, embedded in Power Point presentations, or simply projected from the website itself. Having teachers who can use poll everywhere allows them to have another “tech trick in the toolbox” as I like to say in trainings. Poll Everywhere is not necessarily something to be used daily, as with any task students will easily get bored with it. However, poll everywhere is to be used at times when students need an engagement pick me up. After their initial adoption of using Polleverywhere.com in the classroom, teachers can maintain use by using this app as a conversation starter, a word cloud creation tool, an attendance tracker, collecting anonymous feedback or to check in on learning goals.
I plan on doing a presentation of this technology at the beginning of next school year for teachers who are interested in implementing poll everywhere in the classroom on a more regular basis. I will start by having them view video instructions that I created and posted on youtube. To help teachers I will be available for 1:1 time as they create polls and will plan on coming into their classrooms the first time they use the poling application with their students to ensure instruction and implementation go smoothly. Teachers who successfully utilize polleverywhere.com are encouraged to share their successes with the program with other teachers in their departments and school wide.
